featuring new works by ann mitchell
LOS ANGELES, CA – Nearly a five-year-long endeavor, Ann Mitchell now releases her latest body of work, “A Sense of Place.” Featuring over twenty beautifully intriguing photographs, Mitchell captures like no other the most captivating images of significant man-made landscapes throughout Southern California. Essentially, what is being explored is the intersection between mankind and nature; however that exploration is intensified by the signature blend of Mitchell’s vintage camera use and techniques of digital processing. “A Sense of Place” will run from April 21, 2007 to May 19, 2007. An opening reception will be on Saturday, April 21, 2007 from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
Metro Gallery will feature an exhibition by Southern Californian photographer Ann Mitchell that features images from three related bodies of work: Val Verde, Lotusland and American Triptych. Guided by the adage, “How we use the land says a lot about who we are and what we value,” .Mitchell situates herself in these various locations and intimately explores her fascination with “man-made nature.” Here do we not merely witness the historical estates of Val Verde and Lotusland— both of which feature the work of a renowned classical estate designers, Lockwood de Forest Jr.— we witness the balance between hard and softscape, formality and naturalism, exterior and interior settings, and Mitchell’s interest in our rapidly changing Southern California vistas. The result is a body of work so enchanting Balcony Press is due to release the book “Val Verde: a Photographic Exploration” (2007) this fall.
