An exhibit of art that explores the

meaning of spirituality

LOS ANGELES, CA – Metro Gallery is delighted to announce the exhibit “Sacred Excavations,” featuring the works of Marisa Caichiolo, Danny Hughes and Polina Perl.    In these paintings and sculptures, the three artists creatively interpret and redefine ideas of religion and spirituality that ground us in a time of seemingly endless turmoil and apparent chaos. Worldwide, people are seeking the answers to age-old questions regarding faith and are finding those answers in definitions and redefinitions of traditional religious practices and new-age innovations of spirituality. These excavations are not merely works of art, but ask us to investigate for ourselves the meaning of self-awareness, spirituality, and what we hold to be sacred. Each artist invites viewers to experience this journey through the works to be exhibited.

The exhibit will run from March 6th, 2007 through April 6th, 2007. An opening reception will be on Saturday, March 10, 2007 from 6-10pm.

About the Artists

Marisa Caichiolo is a painter born in Argentina in the Province of Santa Fe. Always interested in mysticism and understanding the inner self of people, she studied Fine Art and Psychology at the University of Buenos Aires, in Argentina.   Her works have been showcased in Brazil, Mexico, France, Spain, Argentina, and Japan as well as in New York and Los Angeles, within the United States.   Marisa's work infuses elements of mysticism, interests in ancestral colors and symbolism. Combining various techniques and styles, she often allows her work images and forms to fluctuate between realism and surrealism.

Danny Hughes is an artist whose work has been displayed in New York, Aspen, New Mexico and London. Danny’s works are inspired by the 72 individual combinations of an ancient group of sacred letters and his knowledge of Kabbalah. Each mixed media painting is inspired to serve as a mantra and illuminate the viewer’s perspective to find a path of his/her own. The works are an incorporation of paintings and drawings of figurative images as well as Aramaic symbols.

Polina Perl, originally from Riga, Latvia, Perl creates ceramic works that allow her to express herself where slabs of clay become canvases for her artwork and the instrument of her communication. The intimacy of the creation allows her to create through personal excavations inspired by memories, dreams and feelings. Influenced by her travels to Europe and Asia, she is fascinated with ancient architecture, old and rusted, yet still present. Polina is a member of the American Ceramic Society, Southern California Section and has recently exhibited her work at the Clay Gallery in Venice, as well as the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood.
