You may be referring to an artist called Gen Paul, who died about fifteen years ago. I had the privilege of meeting him once through friends. He lived in a small apartment overlooking the Moulin de la Galette in Montmartre. I remember he limped, having lost a leg in the First World War. He was a self-taught artist and mainly painted scenes of Pärisian life. If it's the same person as your Janpol, you will recognise his style as being rather rough... a lot of impatient-looking brush strokes, fairly dark colours. I have a small drawing of his. I believe his paintings are worth quite a lot but still affordable. Hope this helps. |
